Each lesson will begin with a series of vocal exercises.
These exercises will each have a specific purpose, which
will be explained beforehand. I do not believe in vocal
“warm-ups,” rather, that every exercise should have a
function and should contribute to vocal growth. The
exercises chosen will help with register breaks, breathing
and use of breath, focus and clarity of sound, vocal
strength, flexibility, range, tone, and relieving
unnecessary body tensions, among other aspects. The second
half of the lesson will be spent on repertoire, trying to
incorporate elements worked on during the vocal exercises.
When a student leaves his lesson, he will know what to
practice, and more importantly, how to practice. If there
is ever a question or the student does not understand what
I am asking of him, I will find a way to explain the
concept until he knows exactly what to do. I will never let
a confused student leave a lesson.
